Enchanted Forest Pitlochry

This year, in ten blog posts, I’ll take you to my greatest sources of inspiration. Places that welcome me with open arms, where I can recharge, and where I find plenty of ideas for new projects.

Today, not a garden, but a forest. And a magical one, indeed: The Enchanted Forest in Pitlochry, a truly fairytale-like place where we celebrated Halloween in 2023.

Hoogtepunten Enchantend Forest

Het thema van Enchanted Forest in 2023 was ‘From the Deep’, dat zie je terug in de verschillende hoogtepunten:

• De sprookjesbrug: alsof je onder een glinsterende laag viseitjes doorliep, deinend op de golven van de oceaan, zo voelde het wandelingetje over de ‘sprookjesbrug’ (die ik zelf zo heb gedoopt, nadat ik hem van een afstandje zag en hij me direct naar de Disneyfilms uit mijn jeugd transporteerde).
• Het meer: een lasershow en lichtprojecties van zeemonsters, fantasiedieren en golvende koralen. Het meer stond in het teken van driedimensionale onderzeefiguren die naar het leek vanuit het meer naar boven kwamen gesprongen om er daarna weer in te verdwijnen. Terug naar het diepe.
• De projecties op de grond: door het hele bos en op de hele route vond je lichtprojecties die het pad lieten golven, borrelen en stromen.
• De lichtgevende bollen: ‘de lichtgevende bollen’ klinkt niet heel spectaculair, maar niets was minder waar. Ze stonden her en der verspreid over de helling, tussen de boomstammen en waren met elkaar verbonden. Dan weer door gloeiend oplichtende lavastrengen inclusief mysterieuze rook, dan weer door diffuse tentakels. Fenomenaal!
• De deinende diepzeecreaturen: op verschillende plekken tijdens de route liep je onder deinende kwallen, koralen en andere fantasievolle vormen. Oplichtend in verschillende kleuren en op het geluid van onderzeemuziek.

Let op: The Enchanted Forest heeft ieder jaar een nieuw thema. De hoogtepunten uit 2023 zul je dus niet meemaken in 2027. Maar… de locaties van de hoogtepunten zijn wel hetzelfde en die staan dan ook ieder jaar in de spotlight. Dus in 2027 geen ‘sprookjesbrug’, maar wel een ander spektakel op de brug. Zo was het thema in 2025 ‘Luminara’, een levend netwerk, een hive mind, geinspireerd op natuurlijke, levende ecosystemen.

Highlights Enchanted Forest

The theme of Enchanted Forest 2023 was “From the Deep,” which is reflected in the various highlights:

• The fairytale bridge: as if you were walking under a shimmering layer of fish eggs, bobbing on the ocean waves, that’s what the stroll across the “fairytale bridge” felt like (which I named myself after seeing it from a distance and it instantly transported me to the Disney films of my childhood).
• The lake: a laser show and light projections of sea monsters, fantasy creatures, and undulating corals. The lake was decorated with three-dimensional submarine figures that seemed to leap from the lake and then disappear back into it. Back to the deep.
• The projections on the ground: throughout the forest and along the entire route, you found light projections that made the path undulate, bubble, and flow.
• The luminous spheres: “The luminous spheres” doesn’t sound very spectacular, but nothing could be further from the truth. They were scattered here and there across the slope, between the tree trunks, and connected to each other. Sometimes by glowing, luminous lava strands complete with mysterious smoke, sometimes by diffuse tentacles. Phenomenal!
• The swaying deep-sea creatures: at various points along the route, you walked beneath swaying jellyfish, corals, and other imaginative shapes. Illuminated in different colors and to the sound of submarine music.

Note: The Enchanted Forest has a new theme every year. So, you won’t experience the highlights from 2023 in 2027. However… the locations of the highlights are the same, and they are therefore in the spotlight every year. So, no ‘fairytale bridge’ in 2027, but a different spectacle on the bridge. For example, the theme in 2025 was ‘Luminara’, a living network, a hive mind, inspired by natural, living ecosystems.

Langs de route zijn er meerdere ‘Food Villages’ met verschillende soorten snacks, warme en koude dranken.

Praktische informatie Enchanted Forest

The Enchanted Forest vindt jaarlijks plaats van begin oktober tot begin november in Faskally Wood, vlakbij Pitlochry, Schotland. Je koopt een ticket en daarmee kun je in Pitlochry op de bus stappen die je vervolgens bij de ingang van het bos afzet. De bussen rijden de hele avond af en aan en je neemt dus ook de bus weer terug naar Pitlochry als je het hebt gezien. Je kunt zolang in The Enchanted Forest blijven als je wilt, maar je entreetijd is belangrijk om aan te houden, want die wordt gescand bij het instappen van de bus.

Entreeprijzen (early bird ticketprijzen 2026, kan volgend jaar anders zijn):

• Familietickets: vanaf £76.00
• Volwassenen: vanaf £27.50
• Kinderen: vanaf £15.00
• Kinderen jonger dan 3: gratis entree

Let op dat je wel een (gratis) ticket ‘koopt’ voor je kinderen jonger dan 3 jaar, want hun ticket is hun plek in de bus.

Prijzen zijn ‘vanaf’ prijzen, omdat de prijzen in het weekend duurder zijn dan doordeweeks.

Als het je leuk lijkt om The Enchanted Forest te bezoeken en je bent maar een bepaalde periode in (de buurt van) Pitlochry, boek je tickets dan zo vroeg mogelijk, want ze gaan als een speer. Direct na het evenement gaat het evenement van het jaar erop in de verkoop. Thank me later 😉

Visitor information

The Enchanted Forest takes place annually from early October to early November in Faskally Wood, near Pitlochry, Scotland. You buy a ticket and then board the bus in Pitlochry, which will drop you off at the forest entrance. The buses run back and forth throughout the evening, so you’ll also take the bus back to Pitlochry once you’ve seen it. You can stay in the Enchanted Forest as long as you like, but it’s important to stick to your entry time, as it will be scanned upon boarding the bus.

Admission prices (early bird ticket prices 2026, may vary next year):

• Family Ticket: From £76.00
• Adult: From £27.50
• Child: From £15.00
• Under 3: FREE

Please note that you must purchase a (free) ticket for children under 3, as their ticket guarantees their seat on the bus.

Prices are “from” prices, as weekend fares are higher than weekday fares.

If you’d like to visit The Enchanted Forest and are only in (or near) Pitlochry for a limited time, book your tickets as early as possible, as they sell out quickly. The following year’s event goes on sale immediately after the event. Thank me later 😉
