Introductie
Ik maak plantportretten in de vorm van olieverfschilderijen en collages. Ik werk in series waarbij ik mij laat inspireren door een specifieke tuin in een bepaald seizoen. Elke serie heeft zijn eigen kleurenpalet. Dat palet meng ik zelf en daarbij gebruik ik enkel de primaire kleuren blauw, magenta, geel en wit.
Van mijn schilderijen en collages maak ik digitaal gespiegelde patronen die ik in kleine oplages laat printen op sjaals, kussenhoezen en bamboeblokken. Die producten zijn hier te koop.
Ook print ik mijn werk op ansichtkaarten, wenskaarten en kalenders. Daarmee sta ik meerdere malen per jaar op markten.
Daarnaast schrijf ik songteksten, gedichten en longreads. In 2024 verscheen mijn debuutbundel “Moederliefde“, een verzameling persoonlijke gedichten afgewisseld met botanische inkttekeningen, ontstaan na het plotseling overlijden van mijn moeder.

Artist statement
Ik schilder plantportretten waarin ik de individuele persoonlijkheid benadruk van elke plant die ik ontmoet. In mijn werk stappen planten uit de gemeenschappelijke anonimiteit van soorten en cultivars en tonen ze hun onderscheidende karakter, gevormd door licht, locatie, standplaats en temperatuur. Met mijn werk laat ik zien dat eigenheid en individualiteit gemeenschappelijkheid niet in de weg staat. Dat je eigen ruimte innemen niet betekent dat er geen ruimte overblijft voor de ander.
Met mijn werk verbeeld ik geïntegreerde gemeenschap waarin het geheel groter is dan de som der delen. Omdat ik geloof dat de toekomst van de samenleving en democratie ligt in het idee dat we, om deel uit te blijven maken van iets groters, geen delen van onszelf hoeven op te offeren. Eén grote gezamenlijke waarheid hoeft niet te betekenen dat we kleinere, individuele waarheden onder het tapijt schuiven.
Mijn visie op een toekomstbestendige manier van vreedzaam samenleven is als een liefdesbaby geboren uit Modernisme en Postmodernisme, en dus niet als agressieve tegenreactie of jeugdige rebellie. Op dit moment werk ik mijn idee uit in een essay, zodra dat af is kun je dat hier lezen.

Mijn achtergrond:
Ik ben opgegroeid binnen de monocultuur van een narcistische, protestants-christelijke sekte. In een onveilige omgeving waar spirituele grootheidswaanzin gecombineerd werd met een diepe angst voor en veroordeling van alles buiten de grenzen van de eigen groep. Ik schilder de botanische wereld, en dan met name schaduwplanten. Zij herinneren mij eraan dat er ook in het donker leven kan ontstaan met een grote diversiteit aan kleuren en vormen. En dat die verscheidenheid iets is om te koesteren in plaats van te wantrouwen.
Introduction
I create plant portraits in the form of oil paintings and collages. I work in series inspired by a specific garden in a particular season. Each series has its own colour palette. I mix this palette myself, using only the primary colours blue, magenta, yellow, and white. For example, the Botaniska series is based on the Gothenburg Botanical Garden. I translated the diffuse northern summer light into a palette with minimal yellows and a lot of whites.
I create digitally mirrored patterns from my paintings and collages, which I have printed in small quantities on scarves, cushion covers, and bamboo blocks. These products are available for purchase here.
I also write song lyrics, poems, and long reads. In 2024, my debut collection “Moederliefde” was published, a collection of personal poems interspersed with botanical ink drawings, created after my mum died very suddenly in the spring of 2024.

Artist statement
I paint plant portraits that emphasize the individual personality of each plant I encounter. In my work, plants transcend the common anonymity of species and cultivars and reveal their distinctive character, shaped by light, location, habitat, and temperature. With my work, I demonstrate that individuality and uniqueness don’t hinder community. That you don’t have to sacrifice parts of yourself to be part of a larger whole. And that taking up your own space doesn’t mean there’s no room left for others. My work is a reminder of and an invitation to experience emotionally mature togetherness.
Through my work I celebrate individuality within integrated community. For I believe the future of society and democracy lies in the notion that in order to be part of something bigger we do no longer need to sacrifice parts of ourselves. A single large truth does not have to mean brushing over smaller truths. We as a species could evolve and expand our nervous systems so that it would be able to hold several truths simultaneously. By doing so we could aquire strong empathy within clear personal boundaries and therefore without any codependent tendency. That, in my opinion is what integrated community could look and feel like.
My vision for a future-proof way of peaceful coexistence is like a love child born of Modernism and Postmodernism, not an aggressive reaction or youthful rebellion. I’m currently developing my idea into an essay; you can read it here once it’s finished.

My background
I grew up within the monoculture of a narcissistic, Protestant-Christian sect. In an unsafe environment where spiritual megalomania was combined with a deep fear and condemnation of anything outside the boundaries of one’s own group. I paint the botanical world, particularly shade-loving plants. They remind me that life can emerge even in the dark, with a great diversity of colours and shapes. And that this diversity is something to be cherished rather than mistrusted.
