Is dit een duoportret van Begonia paulensis en Hoya, of is het koraal naast een groepje mosselen op de zeebodem? Niet de maker, maar de kijker bepaalt. Maar wat je ook ziet, dit contrastrijke portret met zilverkleurige accenten steelt hoe dan ook de show. Het is niet voor niets een van mijn favorieten uit deze complete serie – mag ik dat zeggen? Ja, dat mag ik zeggen xd

Ontstaan Begonia paulensis
Begonia paulensis is onderdeel van mijn Botaniska serie waarin ik mijn weg terug naar het licht heb gevonden. De eerste series werken (de schetsen en de collages) zijn donkerder en paarser van kleur. In de eerste set van 16 canvasboards kun je voorzichtig her en der wat eigeel bespeuren. In de 32 canvasboards waar Begonia paulensis onderdeel van is kun je de opmars van de kleur geel duidelijk zien.

Is this a duo portrait of Begonia paulensis and Hoya, or is this coral next to a clump of mussels on the seabed? The viewer, not the artist, decides. But whatever you see, this high-contrast portrait with silver accents steals the show not matter what. It’s not without reason that it’s one of my favourites from this entire series—at least something I can decide for myself 🙂

Background Begonia paulensis
Begonia paulensis is part of my Botaniska series, in which I’ve found my way back to the light. The first series of works (the sketches and the collages) are darker and more purple in colour. In the first set of 16 canvas boards, you can carefully detect some egg yolk here and there. In the 32 canvas boards that comprise Begonia paulensis, you can clearly see the advance of the colour yellow.
