Ficus elastica is een van de zwierigste portretten die de Botaniska serie rijk is. het Ficus-blad lijkt te dansen op de luchtstroom in een abstracte visualisatie van ‘be the river not the rock’. Misschien is dat de reden dat dit portret zo fijn is om naar te blijven kijken, ondanks het ontbreken van dramatische contrasten of intrigerende buitenaardse vormen?

Ontstaan Ficus elastica
Ficus elastica is onderdeel van mijn Botaniska serie waarin ik mijn weg terug naar het licht heb gevonden. De eerste series werken (de schetsen en de collages) zijn donkerder en paarser van kleur. In de eerste set van 16 canvasboards kun je voorzichtig her en der wat eigeel bespeuren. In de 32 canvasboards waar Ficus elastica onderdeel van is kun je de opmars van de kleur geel duidelijk zien.

Ficus elastica is one of the most dynamic portraits in the Botaniska series. The Ficus leaf seems to dance with the air current in an abstract visualization of “be the river, not the rock.” Perhaps that’s why this portrait is so enjoyable to gaze at, despite the lack of dramatic contrasts or intriguing alien shapes?

Background Ficus elastica
Ficus elastica is part of my Botaniska series, in which I’ve found my way back to the light. The first series of works (the sketches and the collages) are darker and more purple in colour. In the first set of 16 canvas boards, you can carefully detect some egg yolk here and there. In the 32 canvas boards that comprise Ficus elastica, you can clearly see the advance of the colour yellow.
