Say hello to the summery explosion filled with colour contrasts that is my portrait of Grevillea johnsonii. When I saw the flower dangling in the summer of 2024, I felt like I’d landed on a sci-fi film set, with otherworldly flowers and all. That surprise, the delight, that exhilarating feeling of “what is this?!”, as if you’ve just made a remarkable discovery, is what I’ve captured in this portrait.

Ontstaan Grevillea johnsonii
Grevillea johnsonii is onderdeel van mijn Botaniska serie waarin ik mijn weg terug naar het licht heb gevonden. De eerste series werken (de schetsen en de collages) zijn donkerder en paarser van kleur. In de eerste set van 16 canvasboards kun je voorzichtig her en der wat eigeel bespeuren. In de 32 canvasboards waar Grevillea johnsonii onderdeel van is kun je de opmars van de kleur geel duidelijk zien.
Background Grevillea johnsonii
Grevillea johnsonii is part of my Botaniska series, in which I’ve found my way back to the light. The first series of works (the sketches and the collages) are darker and more purple in colour. In the first set of 16 canvas boards, you can carefully detect some egg yolk here and there. In the 32 canvas boards that comprise Grevillea johnsonii, you can clearly see the advance of the colour yellow.
