Diepgele knoppen die op het punt staan open te breken: Passiflora is een portret vol belofte. Overvloedige bloei in verzadigde kleuren tegen een contrasterende donkerblauwe achtergrond. De zon geeft het geheel licht en warmte en verzekert een toekomst vol plezier en genot. Een portret met een hart dat klopt vol verwachting.
Passiflora is onderdeel van mijn Botaniska serie waarin ik het Zweedse zomerlicht en de bijzondere plantvormen van de botanische tuinen van Goteborg en Stockholm heb vastgelegd. De schilderwerken op canvasboard houden het midden tussen schets en detail. Het gezamenlijke resultaat is een collectie momentopnames van planten, tuinhoekjes en bloemen in noordelijk zomerlicht.

Ontstaan Passiflora
“Botaniska” is een serie olieverfschilderijen, -schetsen en collages geïnspireerd op de botanische tuinen in Göteborg en Stockholm die ik bezocht in de zomer van 2024. Ik dacht dat ik niet gemaakt was voor 24 uur licht, maar wat bleek? Het noordelijk licht is veel blauwer en diffuser dan hier in Nederland en dat maakt het voor mij veel beter verteerbaar. Dat principe heb ik vertaald naar een kleurpalet waarin ik zo min mogelijk geel heb gemengd.
De overvloed aan plantvormen en bloemkleuren vroeg mijns inziens om een groot aantal kleine werken in plaats van enkel een paar grotere. Uiteindelijk heeft alle botanische inspiratie geleid tot 83 kunstwerken, waarvan 48 canvasboards.

Passiflora is part of my Botaniska series, in which I capture the Swedish summer light and the unique plant forms of the botanical gardens of Gothenburg and Stockholm. These canvas board paintings are a cross between sketch and detail. The combined result is a collection of snapshots of plants, garden nooks, and flowers bathed in northern summer light.

Background Passiflora
“Botaniska” is a series of oil paintings, sketches, and collages inspired by the botanical gardens in Gothenburg and Stockholm, which I visited in the summer of 2024. I thought I wasn’t cut out for 24 hours of light, but guess what? The northern light is much bluer and more diffuse than back home in the Netherlands, making it much more palatable for me. I translated this principle into a colour palette in which I mixed as little yellow as possible.
The abundance of plant forms and flower colours, in my opinion, called for a large number of small works rather than just a couple of larger ones. Ultimately, all the botanical inspiration resulted in 83 artworks, 48 of which are canvas boards.
