Lotus berthelotii II

Lotus berthelotii II

Who is afraid of red, yellow, and blue? I am! Normally, that is. Because when the colours are mixed like they are here, with gray in the yellow and a lot of white in the blue, I can handle it just fine.

Background Lotus berthelotii II

I planted the seeds for my Rare Flowers series in the Australian greenhouse at the Stockholm Botanic Garden in 2024. There, I saw the most bizarre botanical forms. Almost two years later, the time was finally ripe to start drawing and painting them. And the desire was even greater than it was back in 2024.

Strange forms with which I could experiment freely. Compiling a whole new palette. And discovering what associations would arise while creating more abstract portraits. Lotus berthelotii II is one of those portraits.
