Mama Musa painting

Banana plants have a special place in my heart. Like they always seem so top-heavy but don’t really seem to care. They just keep growing and producing these immense leaves that feel round and triangular at the same time and go in all directions. To me it feels like it could be a good life, living underneath those leaves (or those sheltering loving arms). Hence the title Mama Musa.

So if you could use some loving arms around you on a daily basis I would love this painting to be yours. You can click the shop button to claim it.

Development of Blue Bamboo Shelter Painting

This painting took several months to realise. After making the pictures in the Victoriahuset in Stockholm in July 2024 I first made some composition drawings in ink once I got home. Because I was also still working on my Night Garden series I started painting the base layers end of 2024 and putting on the initial compositions in white. In January 2025 I had to get cracking, because I would be showing these paintings at an exhibition in early March. Due to that deadline I ended up with ‘okay-ish’ paintings composition wise but colour wise they were nowhere near ready in my opinion (while I already had changed the colour schemes three times up until then).

So after the exhibition I took them out of their frames and started to work on them again, this time also using oil pastels in order to not only add more/other colours but also depth and texture. Harsh yellows were replaced by dusty pinks, bright orange was covered with dark brown red and overall I added more dark blue hues. Finally, my initial ‘jungle dreams’ that I had been dreaming for almost a year became a reality, including this Mama Musa dream of a painting.

I can’t be happier with the end result. Mama Musa feels like the mother of this series with all her softness and tender care. Sometimes life gets you down or the world can confront you in unexpected ways. This painting has a replenishing energy that always reminds me of the power of sensitivity and empathy within safe and strong boundaries.
