For all artist who are in need of more clarity on who they are as an artist I offer ‘clarity coaching’ in which you will find your authentic artistic voice, get to understand your why, and find the right words to communicate your vision clearly.
Taking yourself and your work seriously
Why clarity is important? Because if you don’t really believe what you are telling your audience about yourself or your work, people will immediately feel it. You have to believe in yourself first and that is not a mindset or affirmation issue.
It has to do with knowing yourself and understanding what you do and why. So it has less to do with convincing others and far more with taking yourself and your work seriously.
Example schedule:
Over the course of a couple of weeks or months – depending on what works for you – we will dive into your practice and your identity as an artist to find out what makes your work so worthwhile.
Session 1: Opening consultation.
We will discover where you are now as an artist and in getting your message across. We will read your artist statement, biography, and blog post – if there are any – and discuss what feels right for you and what might need adjustment. Who are you as an artist and as a human being? What of yourself do you bring into your work?
Session 2: ‘Portfolio historiography’
Analysing your portfolio up until now, what directions did you take, what choices did you make. Did you maybe change medium or subject. Where do you see your work heading over the next year? Is there a piece of work that you are particularly proud of?
Session 3: Art practise
What’s your research, what questions do you ask yourself, your work and / or the world? What’s the role of your medium and your subject. What are your main sources of inspiration, what draws you in? How do you engage with your own work, what are the signature steps you take before starting / while working? What typical things of yourself do you bring into or influence your practise?
Session 4: Artistic path
What road are you on now and do you like it’s direction? Future dreams and goals. Are you working towards something, is there an ‘end game’, or are you working less linear across all dimensions. What are the relationship dynamics between you and your work. What influences your decisions on direction and focus?
Session 5: Artistic vision
What do you think / feel art is? Why is art important to you, what does it add to your life, to the life of others and to the world. If anything was possible, what would you want your art to contribute/establish or change? What people do you look up to, are inspirational to you or do you consider a role model?
Session 6: Bringing it all together
Connecting the dots between your practise, your path, your vision and your work up until now to find your why, your message and the right words to convey them. Connecting past, present, and future for a clear understanding of your work, your artistry and your ways of engaging with the world in order to get your message across.

About the coach:
Francine Polis (born 1986) is an artist and author from the Netherlands. After understanding what she was creating and why, her writing skills allowed her to translate those insights into clear, concise pieces—artist statements, introductions, blog posts—and rich, in-depth articles. Realizing how many artists struggle to find clarity about their what and why—let alone put it down on paper—she decided to offer artist coaching. She combines her writing skills with her artistic sensibility and her ability to get to the heart of the matter. Her coaching style is empathetic and direct, with a pleasant balance between depth and frivolity.
